Step outside of your comfort zone while feeling empowered, not overwhelmed.
Going after your dreams can be scary. Figuring out if you should take action and what the first step should be can be daunting enough to stop you in your tracks. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
There are a few ways you can feel empowered and start to take action in your life while feeling good (not stressed) about it. Read on to learn 5 ways you can get started today from one woman to another.
Women are taking up space more than ever. We’re stepping outside our comfort zones, starting more businesses, and going after our dreams at increasing rates.
Whether it’s changing careers, seeking a new position at work, starting a business, or getting a degree later in life--there are countless ways we may be dreaming of taking action in our lives. But, where do we start? How do we know if we’re making the right decision? We want to help take a little bit of the worry off of your mind.
We’re sharing 5 ways you can empower yourself and start taking action in your life:
Determine what truly sets your soul on fire.
We all have dreams. It’s part of what makes us human and gives our lives an immense amount of purpose. If you’re finding yourself being kept away at night thinking about making a change, it’s a sign that you might need to be taking action. Taking the risk is scary, and jumping into the unknown can make even the most confident of women feel uneasy--but the reward of going for it is unmatched. There is a world of opportunity on the other side of fear and the first step to achieving that is having that magic moment of accepting what you were meant to be doing.
Flip the switch to a growth mindset.
Adopting a growth mindset opens our lives up to an endless amount of opportunity. When we live in scarcity or the fear of there not being enough room for us to thrive in the space we dream of, we keep limiting ourselves. And keep ourselves playing small. A scarcity mindset is our brain protecting us from the “unknown” as we step outside our comfort zone. But when we fully open ourselves up to the idea that there is enough room for us to grow and succeed in new spaces, we can find an immense amount of growth and positivity to achieve our goals.
Don’t be afraid to invest in yourself.
Investing in yourself to achieve your goals doesn’t have to involve spending thousands of dollars. It can be as simple as setting aside 30 minutes every day to work towards your goal or learn a new skill set. If you’re considering switching careers or getting a degree, invest in books to get a headstart and expand your knowledge. Investing in yourself should be tailored to your unique situation. When you prioritize expanding your knowledge and skillset, you’re betting on yourself to succeed (and who better to trust with your time and money than yourself?). And remember, the important quote from Warren Buffet, “invest in yourself as much as you can, you are your own biggest asset by far.”
Find an accountability partner or support system.
Growth is uncomfortable. It can be messy, uncomfortable, and overwhelming. Having a support system and accountability partner can help you feel at ease knowing you’re not on your own. Yes, you’ll be doing the work for yourself. But having a friend to lean on, or better yet, someone who is working towards the same goal, can help you navigate any difficulties, remind you why you started, and be there to celebrate your achievements. Not sure where to find an accountability partner? Try searching for Facebook groups, local networking spaces, or just asking a friend or family member to provide support.
Start by setting small, achievable goals.
There might be a long road between where you are now and where you want to be. The good news is, you don’t need to overwhelm yourself with doing everything at once. One strategy is to write down milestone goals and then further break down the steps of each milestone goal into bite-sized chunks. This allows you to feel more accomplished as you see yourself actively working towards your goal, further building momentum.
